KAZAKH EAGLE HUNTERS

With an estimated 250-300 Kazakh eagle hunters in the Altai region of Western Mongolia, many believe that hunting with eagles is one of the highest expressions of their cultural heritage. An Eagle is caught before it reaches 6-7 years of age as they are thought to make particularly loyal partners. Females, being the larger and stronger of the sexes, are preferred. Some hunters might catch 10 to 15 eagles before finding one that would be worth training, and after 10 seasons in captivity, it must be released to breed in the wild.
